What does this service do for me?
Print@Kodak provides you an alternative solution to printing your digital images at home through a simple and automatic e-process. The Print@Kodak internet print service is a new and easy way for you to send your digital photos via the internet for printing on real photographic paper. Your printed photos can either be picked up from your closest participating retail store or you can arrange to have them delivered to you through the mail. Top

What kind of software do I need to access this Service?
There are 3 different ways to access the service. You can either use the Print@Kodak software, Kodak's EasyShare software, or if you are using Windows XP, the Order Prints Online button in the 'My Pictures' Folder.

Details on each of these options and download instructions are included on this Web site. Simply click download FREE software, and review the best option for you (when ready to install, select the download button).

Once you have accepted the terms and conditions of this service and the software has been downloaded and installed, the easy to use software will guide you through the Print@Kodak internet print service.

Initially, the Print@Kodak software will ask you to enter your personal data. The software application then prepares a list of photo labs in your area that you can have your pictures sent to for collection. You can select the pictures from your hard disk (or other source) and decide upon the size you wish each of your images to be printed. Once you have made your selections you will be asked to finalise your order and the Print@Kodak software will do the rest.

Please keep in mind that your computer should be configured to access the Internet via Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Although the Print@Kodak software does not use those specific programs, it will copy and use settings made in these Internet browsers. Top

Is every digital image suited for the Print@Kodak Print Service?
Traditional photos on photographic paper are usually of high quality. In order for prints from digital images to be of equally high quality, they should meet the following requirements:

a) File format
The Print@Kodak print service works with the popular file formats JPEG, TIFF and FLASHPIX.
We advise against the use of GIF files as these files are limited to 256 colours - which may be sufficient on screen, but lacking quality in a photo.

b) Resolution
Resolution is determined by the number of pixels in a picture. Early digital cameras had a resolution of only 320x200 pixels. Such pictures are perfect for use on Internet or on screen, but not good enough for prints on photographic paper.

A digital picture with a resolution of 640x480 pixels can be printed to a size of 10x15 cm; with an 800x600 pixel image you would of course receive a better photo print. Some photo labs offer larger than 10x15 cm photo print sizes, for which even higher resolution images are strongly advised, e.g. 1024x768 pixels or better.

If you have selected a digital picture that does not meet the above standards, the Print@Kodak software will tell you so. If you ignore the warning, the Print@Kodak software just assumes you have accepted that the resulting quality could be lower. Top

Where can I find a photo lab close to me offering this Service?
When you first run the Print@Kodak software, you will be asked to enter your name, address, e-mail, and so forth. The next step will be to select a photo lab. At this point, the Print@Kodak system will connect to a server that carries the latest up-to-date list of participating photo labs. (This is dynamic, and will grow and change over time).

Once you have selected a photo lab and processed your order the Print@Kodak system will upload your digital images for printing. The photos will either be printed at the photo lab of your choice or printed by Kodak Photo Services if the photo lab hasn't got the compatible system to download the images for printing.

In the latter case, the photos will be delivered to the selected photo lab for your collection. Check with your selected photo lab whether they print Print@Kodak orders onsite or not if this is a concern to you. Please allow 4 working days for orders to be processed.Top

What should I do to prepare images?
You can print any computer images as long as we can read the file format. In the release you can download now, we support JPEG, TIFF, BMP and FLASHPIX. Please keep in mind that not every image out of your PC will print out nicely. There may be problems with resolution or compression of your digital image file. The Print@Kodak software will alert you with a warning each time if it detects a possible deficiency in your picture quality. Top

What is a compression warning?
Some models of digital cameras allow for a choice of quality levels. This is an option that is sometimes labelled as Low, Medium or High Quality. This refers to the level of compression of the picture. The simple rule is, the higher the quality, the better the prints will be. Since there are so many variables in reaching an optimal result, the best recommendation we can make is don't compress too much. One thing you should note is that once you have compressed the digital image, you cannot regain the original image quality. Also, the compression factor is independent from the resolution of your picture. When you compress, you don't reduce resolution but simply intentionally deteriorate quality of the picture. In any case your software will warn you if compression is too high. Top

How can I upload images from my Digital Camera?
Your Digital Camera should be supplied with software that enables you to transfer the Photos from the camera to your PC. Make sure the images are saved in one of the supported file formats (see above). Top

Can I print scanned images?
A scanner is an excellent source of digital images. The only thing you should keep in mind is to scan with enough resolution to match existing colour printing technology. A good habit is to try to get a file with a resolution between 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. This will give you a trade-off between quality, disk space and modem transmission time. We recommend JPEG as the file format to use. Top

What Print size options can I select?
The Print@Kodak system lets you select the number of prints and the size you want. This information will be listed and be totally dependent from the photo lab you will have chosen. Each photo lab will have its specific offering, and going from photo lab to photo lab you will find different possibilities. Top

How do I know that the print I will get back is a good print?
When selecting your images, the Print@Kodak software will alert you on screen if the images you have selected are of insufficient resolution or number of colours. You will still be able to send the image to the photo lab if you wish, but the result will be of inferior quality and you will be obligated to pay for your order. Top

Can I send prints to my relatives far away?
The Print@Kodak software will allow you to enter a delivery address different from your own within Australia. In this way you can send your prints wherever you wish, either to be delivered by mail or for pick-up in a store. This could be used for sending family pictures to your relatives, or photos to a client or supplier. Using the mail option, you will need to use your credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) to pay in advance for your prints over the internet. Top

How much does it cost and how do I have to pay?
Click on Print@Kodak Pricing to view the pricing matrix.

If you elect to pick up your prints from a photo lab, you will be required to pay for your prints when they are picked up. Mail Order fulfilment must be paid in advance using a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) when placing the order using the Print@Kodak software. Top
